The 1989 Hillsborough County Public Art Ordinance allows the Board of County Commissioners to acquire, by purchase or commission, works of art for sites throughout the County. The County's Public Art Program conceptualizes the integration of art within selected County sites and facilities. Such a program enhances the contemporary cultural character and aesthetic vitality of the community.

A group of citizens and art professionals appointed by the Board of County Commissioners comprises the volunteer Public Art Committee. This seven-member committee cooperates with site advisory committee members, project managers, and architects to select art work which may be:

  • Artistically significant
  • Reflective of the County's cultural diversity
  • Site specific and complementary to environment and structural design
