Hillsborough County Corridor Plan

Project Description

Hillsborough County initiated a countywide Transportation Corridor Preservation Plan in November 2002 to identify rights-of-way for future roadways, utilities, trails and public transit to meet our future needs. The Corridor Plan looked at roadway improvements beyond those identified in the MPO’s Long Range Transportation 2025 Needs Plan. The Corridor Plan will be completed in April 2004, identifying nearly 100 projects requiring right-of-way preservation. This Plan will ensure that adequate transportation will be available to accommodate future growth before development occurs, at a cost savings to our taxpayers.

Project History

A significant amount of work has been completed over the past year that has resulted in the development of a final Corridor Plan. Examples of the work efforts completed during this time included the following:

  • Review of the County's Comprehensive Plan and 2025 Needs Assessment Plan
  • Review of the previous work conducted in the Urban Services Areas and community based planning efforts
  • Developed a model for build-out scenarios using Geographic Information Systems(GIS)
  • Conducted an economic analysis to assess the potential economic benefits of there commended transportation improvements
  • Developed implementation strategies and guidelines for preserving rights-of-way
  • Developed new language to include in the land development code and comprehensive plan
  • Conducted a proactive public outreach program that included presentations, meetings, workshops, newsletters and video, among other tasks.
