Since disasters know no boundaries, Hillsborough County is involving all local municipalities in the planning process and hopes to create a multi-jurisdictional Post-Disaster Redevelopment Plan (PDRP) as the outcome of this process. The County is also interested in ensuring that all stakeholder groups are represented in the planning process and that there are opportunities for public involvement.
Hillsborough County Ordinance 93-20 establishes a Redevelopment Task Force that is being used as the base of a large stakeholder group being organized for the current planning process. The stakeholder group is being structured into several technical advisory committees that will provide expertise on major recovery issues for the county including housing, infrastructure, economic, health and social services, and public outreach. The pilot project funding runs through March 2009. It is expected that a final draft PDRP would be completed by this time and could then move into the adoption stage. Stakeholder and technical advisory committee meetings will be held on a regular basis throughout the planning process. All meetings (link to Meetings webpage) will be announced on this site and open to any interested citizens to attend. In addition, presentations to raise awareness of the PDRP project will be made at various organizations meetings. A Local Mitigation Strategy public meeting this fall will also present the project’s status.
Once the stakeholders and planning staff have developed a number of draft components to share, they will be made available through this website and also at a series of public meetings that will be held early next year. More information on these opportunities to participate and comment will be available as we proceed with the project.
