In 1998, the Hillsborough County Board of County Commissioners
(BOCC) approved a Community-Based Planning Program. Community-Based Plans
are designed to address and offer solutions to the community's critical
planning issues and concerns, and to protect the qualities and characteristics
that define what is unique and special about the community. A community-wide
consensus will be established on an action plan that has goals, objectives,
policies, and proposals for guiding growth, regulating development, and
delivering public services consistent with the residents' priorities.
The plans will reflect an emphasis on implementation and accountability,
and in contrast to the Comprehensive Plan, will have a short-term planning
horizon, focus on a limited number of strategic issues, be limited to
smaller distinct geographic areas, and be more detailed. Community Planning
for sections of the County are ongoing in Northwest/Citrus Park, Thonotosassa,
University of South Florida, Town 'N Country, Brandon Main Street, Ruskin
and Riverview.
