Community Anti-Gang Initiative - Hillsborough County is
receiving $2.25 million of federal grant funds from the Bureau of Justice
Administration (BJA) through the Florida Department of Law Enforcement (FDLE)
to reduce gang crime and violence. The three strategies are:

Prosecution/enforcement to reduce the occurrence of violent, gang-related
incidents through both reactive and proactive efforts supported by federal,
state, and local law enforcement and enhanced penalties.

Prevention the "GANG OUT" program is for
at-risk youth residing in hot spot neighborhoods, ages 7 to 14, to reduce
the occurrence of gang
involvement through targeted, evidence based gang prevention. For more

Offender Re-entry to increase public safety by reducing recidivism rates
among high-impact and gang involved offenders returning to the community

Justice Assistance Grants (JAG) - Hillsborough County
is receiving $652,167 of federal BJA funding passed through FDLE and $502,544
of funding from BJA. JAG funds are being used to reduce crime and improve
public safety.

USF Multi-Jurisdictional Pilot provides additional law enforcement
support for the campus and the area north of USF. These officers
will work in highly visible, marked, patrol cars and will respond
to calls for service during peak periods. |

City of Tampa Police addresses youth crimes by expanding its
current crime reduction initiatives by targeting neighborhoods
that typically have increases in crime during the summer months
and the holiday season addressing youth crime.

Public Defender’s Transition and Restorative Services reduces
recidivism by providing assistance to clients that enable them to
comply with court ordered sanctions.

Passport to Success, a Gulf Coast Community Care re-entry project,
provides discharge planning, community case management, intervention/
treatment and community support for inmates leaving the county jail. (Program has ended)

Temple Terrace Police Equipment updates current surveillance and
drug investigative equipment.

Hillsborough Data Collaborative establishes an information sharing
network to compile, organize, and analyze existing data across the
public safety, criminal justice, and social service systems to assist
with policy level decision making.

Juvenile Assessment Center and Technical Assistance, an Agency
for Community Treatment Services project, operates the facility,
validates data sets, and provides guidance and technical assistance
to criminal justice staff.

Jail Inmate Life Skills Programs, a Sheriff’s Office project,
adds services for male, juvenile offenders incarcerated at the
Hillsborough County jail.

Criminal Justice Reinvestment Grant, Hillsborough County is receiving
a grant funded through the Department of Children and Families for
people with substance abuse and mental health illness. Further information

Jail Diversion of the Mentally Ill – Hillsborough County is
receiving $1,000,000 of federal funds from SAMHSA for Forensic Intensive Case
Management
services for the mentally ill and people with co-occurring substance abuse and

Jail Discharge Planning for the Mentally Ill – Hillsborough County
is receiving $200,000 of federal funds from BJA for jail discharge planning

Crime Stoppers of Tampa Bay Inc. – Hillsborough County is receiving
$139,510 of trust funds from the State Attorney General’s Office.
Crime Stoppers accepts anonymous tips and pays rewards for tips that

SCAAP – Hillsborough is receiving $ 468,965 of federal grant funds
from the Bureau of Justice for housing certain illegal immigrants in
county jail facilities. For more information on any of these projects,

Drug Related Trust Funds have been awarded to the Centre for Women for
expansion of their facilities to in order to provide for more case management
and client privacy. For more information on this project, contact the

Crime Prevention Criminal Justice periodically distributes crime prevention
and safety tips as one approach to achieving the County’s crime
reduction goals.
