Services
 
Child Care Licensing offers numerous services to help improve the quality of care provided to children.
These services include but are not limited to:

  • Routine inspections of CCF's and FCCH's in Hillsborough County
    Licensed Child Care Facilities and Family Child Care Homes are routinely inspected by the Licensing Staff.

  • Screening of Child Care Personnel
    Background screening checks on all staff working with children. This screening consists of fingerprinting for a state and federal records check, an FDLE state records check and a local county records check.

  • Video/Resources Available
    We have a variety of books, videos, and magazines on all early childhood topics. They are available for use by all child care center and family child care providers.

  • Child Care Update (View Newsletter)
    Hillsborough County Child Care Licensing circulates a newsletter called the "Child Care Update." It is produced quarterly and contains articles written by the staff on various child care topics. It is mailed to all child care centers and family child care homes.

  • Professional Development Training for Providers
    As a member of the Community Training Collaboration, Hillsborough County Child Care Licensing, in partnership with the Hillsborough early Childhood Association and the Resource & Referral Central Training Office, sponsors a number of special interest training opportunities throughout the year. Topics are determined by the Collaboration based on community needs, and include center-based and family child care settings that serve children from infant/toddler through school age. All Community Training Collaboration sessions fulfill mandated training requirements for childcare personnel.

  • Publications and Pamphlets
    Child Care Licensing maintains a variety of publications and pamphlets useful to providers and parents alike. They address health, safety, early childhood development and more. Visit our office or contact the inspector on duty for more information.

  • Identification of Other Community or State Agencies
    Referrals to agencies that have child care resources for parents and child care personnel.

  • Daily Consultations or Technical Assistance with a Licensing Specialist
    Our Intake Inspector on duty for the day can provide information on obtaining a Family Child Care or Child Care Facility license. They will also answer any questions regarding licensing rules and regulations and provide assistance on what to do with a child who has lice or bites.

  • Investigations of Child Care Concerns and Complaints
    Licensing Inspectors investigate allegations of rule violations in regulated child care programs and family child care homes. This also includes the investigation of child abuse and neglect allegations.

  • Child Care Provider Information for Parents
    The office provides parents looking for child care the opportunity to review a center's or family child care home's licensing file. These files contain copies of past monitoring reports, complaints & investigations and other reports relating to the legal operation of the center or home.
