How long does it take to get licensed?
The average time for Family Child Care Licensing is ninety (90) days, but some people take longer.
You can work at your own pace. You have up to a year from the date we receive your pre-application to
get licensed.

What is the definition of Family Child Care?
A Family Child Care Home is a residence, occupied by the owner of the Family Child Care Business,
in which child care is provided on a regular basis for unrelated children for which a payment, fee
or grant is received for any of the children in care. If the owner of the Family Child Care
Business does not own their occupied residence, they must receive written permission from their
landlord/realty company to do a Family Child Care Business at their rental address before they
can be licensed.

How many children can I have with a Family Child Care Home?
The capacity of a Family Child Care Home applies to all children under 13 years of age who are
related to the caregiver or who live in the home. You would choose ONE of the following scenarios:

A maximum of four children from birth to 12 months of age.
OR

A maximum of six children, if no more than three are birth to 12 months.
OR

A maximum of 10 children, if no more than five are preschool age and, of those five, no more
than two are under 12 months of age.

Can I open a Family Child Care Home before getting licensed?
No, violation of the provisions of this ordinance shall be prosecuted in the same manner as
misdemeanors are prosecuted, as provided by Florida Statutes, and any person found guilty of
violating this ordinance shall, upon conviction, be punished by a fine not to exceed five hundred
dollars ($500), by imprisonment in the county jail not to exceed 60 days, by both such fine and
imprisonment or as otherwise provided for second degree misdemeanors by Florida Statutes.
You are required by law to post your Family Child Care License in your home where all your FCC
parents can see it. Any person advertising a Family Child Care Home by printed notice or broadcast
must include their license number. This requirement includes, but is not limited to, business
cards, fliers, pamphlets, classified advertisements, signs, telephone directories, radio and
television announcements and other advertising circulations.
